Learn why that shield is the TRUE star of Captain America

Captain America's shield is so famous that not only does it do cameos in movies (Iron ManIron Man 2), it also has its own featurette. The video is called "Behind the Shield" and it features Chris Evans, Joe Johnston, Kevin Feige, and the rest of the film's crew talking about how the famous weapon came to be.
The shield has a life of its own. It started off with a triangle shape then got upgraded to the sleek circle we all know and love. According to Evans, he went through several versions of it while shooting Captain America: The First Avenger. If a scene called for Cap to hit someone with the shield, they used a rubber one. If he had to carry the shield on his back, they had a magnetic one. There's a shield for every occasion.

Dominic Cooper, who plays Howard Stark (Tony's dad) talks about how his character created the shield from a special metal called Vibranium. Vibranium is stronger than steel but weighs less, which makes it the ultimate Nazi-fighting accessory.
It sounds like the shield will be getting a lot of screen time and we can't wait to see it in action.
Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22.
