Sprint announced that it will launch over ten Motorola smartphones in 2011, two of which were disclosed at a press luncheon in New York yesterday.
The first Motorola phone to debut this summer on the Sprint network is the Motorola Photon 4G which will run on the latest version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. It has a 4.3 inch qHD screen, and will come with two cameras, one 8 megapixel for picture taking and video recording and one front facing camera for video calls. The Photon 4G is said to satisfy both personal and business needs, according to ComputerWorld.
The other phone, the Motorola Triumph will be released for Sprint’s Virgin Mobile USA which is geared towards prepaid users. It will run on Android 2.2, has a 4.1-inch WVGA display, a slim design of 0.4 inches and dual-facing cameras; a front-facing VGA camera and a 5-megapixel camera, reports PCWorld. It runs on a 1GHz processor and comes with 2 GB of memory expandable to 32 GB with a MicroSD slot. No pricing or release dates were given by Sprint or Motorola for both phones.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Sprint and we are thrilled to open a new chapter of working together,” Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha said at the event. “We are showing the breadth of this partnership,” he added according to BusinessWeek.
According to some analysts, Sprint and Motorola need each other. Jack Gold told ComputerWorld, “Motorola sees WiMax on Sprint as a way to show off its capabilities on phones, especially since the Atrix and Xoom tablet from Motorola have not met its expectations.” While Sprint he said, “wants in on the Android momentum and has not been as successful there as Verizon Wireless and AT&T.”
