June 8, 2004 was last time Venus passed between the Earth and the Sun — the first in more than 120 years. This "transit of Venus" occurs in a pattern that repeats every 243 years with the next ones taking place in June 2012, December 2117, and December 2125. During the transit, Venus looks like a tiny dot gliding across the sun and was used in the past to calculate the distance between the Earth and the Sun. PHOTOS
