Perhaps not content to rule the world of ping-pong with its elite human players, researchers in China have created fully functional robot ping-pong players, and they've got game.
Designed at Zhejiang University, the two robots can serve and return ping-pong balls by accurately tracking the direction, position and speed of the tiny, fast moving objects. In development for about four years, the robots can also play with human opponents. This new reality of advanced sports training may serve to ramp up the already robot-like speed and efficiency of the nation's reigning ping-pong champions.
