If your greatest fear is the earth being taken over by an army of self-replicating robots, well, maybe you should stop reading right now. This here is a robot that can make more robots. The Modular Robotics Lab at the University of Pennsylvania have come up with a way for its FoamBot to build robots dynamically, using spray foam to create quadruped robots using its CKBot modules. It'll change the shape up depending on how the modules are laid out, so no two bots are the same. Just like snowflakes!
In theory, this tech could be used to make bots that build other bots for specific tasks, modeling each one for exactly what it needs to be doing. You know, like one type of robot for killing humans, and the other for digging graves. Or making medicine! I don't know guys, I guess we'll see. LINK
