Outside, the Concept features crisp, chiseled lines, a subtly up-swept stance and muscular fenders. In accordance with current industry trends, the front end is dominated by a massive central grille, while the slant of the headlights seems to recall the design of the previous Legacy.
The cabin includes highly stylized bucket seats front and rear along with generous helpings of wood and aluminum trim, all of which has scant chance of making it to production. Interesting, the steering wheel houses a large screen boasting a GPS sat-nav system, direct access to the Internet and Subaru’s EyeSight crash avoidance system, which detects pedestrians and cyclists by monitoring the front sightlines with two cameras mounted above the rear view mirror.

The biggest news is under the hood, where the Advanced Tourer Concept has a new, downsized 1.6-liter variant of Subaru’s boxer four that employs direct injection and turbocharging. Expect the mill to make its way into a number of Subaruproducts in the near future. In the Concept, the little engine teams up with a Subaru-designed single motor hybrid system with lithium-ion batteries, and power is sent to the wheels via a new version of the automaker’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
Look for a production version of the Subaru Advanced Tourer Concept to debut within the next few years.
