Docomo unveils double-sided transparent touchscreen smartphone

The benefits of using an Android smartphone over an iPhone are often limited to key differences in software. But a new prototype featuring a two-sided transparent display could finally give Android lovers the hardware advantage.

Developed by Japan's Docomo and Fujitsu, the display allows the user to manipulate a touchscreen from two different sides, essentially doubling the operational screen real estate on a smartphone. However, the innovation does include a couple of major drawbacks: no color screen and the inability to use the screen in settings with very bright lighting.
Docomo hasn't announced plans to sell the smartphone, but given the company's history of innovative handsets, it's only a matter of time before this becomes a commercial product. You can see video of the prototype screen in action in the video below. VIDEO
