Honda recalls 50,000 ’12 Civics over driveshaft issue

Honda has announced that it will recall 50,000 Civics from the 2012 model year to address an issue with the driver’s side driveshaft that could result in a loss of engine power.

Due to improper assembly during the manufacturing process, the left driveshaft may separate from the outer CV joint, preventing the engine from moving the car in any gear. If the separation occurs while the car is parked, it is at risk to roll away if the parking brake is not engaged.
Honda says that it has not received any reports of any accidents or injuries resulting from the issue.
The automaker will begin notifying owners of the recall on June 21, at which time dealers will inspect the driver’s side driveshaft and install a new unit if necessary.
