A new HTTP code status has been proposed by Tim Bray to display a notice when a web site is closed for legal reasons. Bray, a co-inventor of XML and developer at Google, will submit a proposal to the IETF for the code, named 451, to include specific reasons for the shutdown of a website, to include illegal activities, censorship, or other reasons such as copyright infringement.
The number in the code is a reference to Ray Bradbury's "Farenheit 451," which describes a dystopian future in which book burnings and the censorship of unacceptable material is routine
