The Mantabot was designed to mimic the swimming style of a manta ray, and we're troubled to report that the roboticists accomplished this goal with creepily realistic effect. According to professor Hilary Bart-Smith from the University of Virginia, the robot is meant to explore the future of bio-mechanical engineering through examining the unique way in which manta rays travel through water.
