Underwater robot swims like a manta ray from your nightmares

As if we didn't have enough to worry about with land-based humanoid robots and aerialdrones hastening the coming robocalypse, now a terrifyingly convincing sea faring robot has been created called the Mantabot.

The Mantabot was designed to mimic the swimming style of a manta ray, and we're troubled to report that the roboticists accomplished this goal with creepily realistic effect. According to professor Hilary Bart-Smith from the University of Virginia, the robot is meant to explore the future of bio-mechanical engineering through examining the unique way in which manta rays travel through water.
Let's just be honest here, next to spider robots, the Mantabot may be the scariest autonomous robot future you could envision. You can see the Mantabot in action in the video below.
