Jet lag, one of those modern afflictions that wouldn't be possible
without technology, remains one of the main perils of international
travel. But now a group of researchers have come up with what may be the
best solution in the fight to reset your internal sleep clock in the age of the global citizen.
Created by sleep researchers at Australia's Flinders University, the Re-Timer is a device that you wear like a pair of glasses that emits a soft green LED light into your eyes. According to the research group, the light works to shift your sleep pattern ahead or slow it down, thus allowing you to move your sleep cycle in sync with your current location. By wearing the Re-Timer for three days, for at least 50 minutes per day, the wearer can supposedly re-jigger their sleep patterns.
Commenting on the university's website, the project's co-inventor, psychologist Leon Lack said, "[Sleep patterns are] often impaired by staying indoors, traveling to other times zones, working irregular hours, or a lack of sunlight during winter months... Our extensive research studies have shown that green light is one of the most effective wavelengths for advancing or delaying the body clock."
The Re-Timer can be recharged through your computer via USB and it's available now for $258 on the company's website. You can see it in action in the video below. VIDEO
