Even BSG's producers aren't entirely sure what happened to Starbuck

One of genre TV's great ambiguities is still not clear, even to the people who helped engineer it.
It's been four years since the celebrated Battlestar Galactica revival series ended, and fans are still talking about the complexities of its finale, including the fate of Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Katee Sackhoff), who literally vanished into thin air at the end of her journey. This week, members of the cast and crew gathered at San Diego Comic-Con for a panel celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Battlestar franchise, and one fan asked the inevitable question: "What happened to Starbuck?"
Two different producers from the series, Michael Taylor and Paul Leonard, responded to the question, and each had a different take. Here's Taylor's interpretation, which sort of continues the ambiguity.
“Well, she was either an angel, or she ducked down really low beneath the tall grass," he said. "You just couldn’t see her, you know?”
Leonard's answer was a little more direct, and is definitely the sort of thing ripe for deeper fan analysis (which, let's be honest, some of you have probably already done).
“I’m pretty sure Starbuck died near the end of Season 3.” Leonard said, and noted that Sackhoff herself didn't always understand what her character really was from season four onward.
“Walking Dead Starbuck was what all her dialogue was under after that,” Leonard joked.
So, the mystery of what really happened to one of sci-fi TV's most compelling characters continues, though fans will no doubt continue putting forth their own ideas. What do you think? Where is Starbuck now?
