Alan Wake stirs back to life, does some stuff against darkness

Remember Alan Wake? It was the game where you fought darkness. Your weapons were flashlights and flares. Sometimes you had to shoot zombies, too, but that was strictly an ancillary activity.
The saga of Alan Wake, Darkness Fighter, is not over. The Writer is a new downloadable episode, available now for $7. Here's the description from the Xbox Live Marketplace:
Our second downloadable content pack, "The Writer," finds Wake in strange circumstances; now fully aware of the thing that opposes him, he must survive one increasingly nightmarish situation after another.
Well, that's not terribly informative. Let's see if the press release for the DLC says anything that isn't also true of the basic game:
...your favorite author battles the all-consuming darkness where nightmares have turned into reality, and he is in danger of losing his mind. Wake's desperate attempt to reclaim his sanity and take control of his life is guided by the mysterious Diver, Thomas Zane. His only hope of survival is "The Writer."
Wait a minute, hold on. "My favorite author"? That's just going to make Stephen King, Roger Zelazny, and Dan Brown cry.
