The Enterprise-D, Jean-Luc Picard's trusty starship in Star Trek: The Next Generation , is one hulking vessel. It's over 2,100 feet long and 1,500 feet wide, making it far larger than today's biggest Earthly vehicles. Now, one man wants to recreate it — digitally.
A fellow who goes by the handle of Halnicholas on YouTube — so, Hal Nicholas, maybe? — is working on a version of the Enterprise that you could actually walk around in in a game called Minecraft. (If you're not familiar, the name pretty much sums up the game: you mine for materials, then craft with them. You can build whatever you can dream up.)
Right now, it's little more than the framework of the ship and it's missing the warp nacelles. Hal needs some help fleshing out the interior of the ship, which to us sounds absolutely awesome. Like Second Life before, Minecraft is really only limited by the ingenuity of its userbase. (A YouTube search of the game will show you what we mean.)
Take a tour of the Enterprise in the video below. We got chills the first time he pans over to it, it's like seeing it in a dry dock:
