Forensic investigators are about to get a new partner: a camera. Wait, there's more. It's not an ordinary camera — it's one that can detect blood stains that may not be visible to the naked eye. Two scientists at the University of South Carolina in Columbia could change the forensics investigation field forever if their prototype camera ever gets adequate funding.
Stephen Morgan and Michael Myrick have invented a camera that can spot blood stains without messing around with the crime scene. The camera uses pulses of infrared light beamed onto a surface to detect the blood stains. Using a filter made of "protein albumin" the camera can distinguish blood from its surroundings. Changing the filter's chemical makeup would allow for the camera to detect other substances.
Nefarious villains are in for whooping in the future. There will be no escaping from felonious crimes and we wouldn't have it any other way.
