After getting unceremoniously bumped from its April date, Universal's prequel to John Carpenter's horror classic has finally been given clearance to land. Hopefully, the producers have used the additional time wisely.
We'll know for sure come Oct. 14, 2011, when The Thing drops.
As we reported previously, producer Marc Abraham said that the April-to-October shift was so that first-time director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and his cast—which includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton—could do some reshoots that would "enhance existing sequences ... make crystal clear a few story beats ... (or) add punctuation marks to the film's feeling of dread."
