Boy, did it get ugly fast when Barnes & Noble announced the Nook Color and E Ink lovers attacked it for being traitorous and going to the dark side — the touchscreen tablet side. Entourage wants you to know it still cares about E Ink owners with its dual touchscreen e-reader/tablet hybrid.
The Pocket eDGE hybrid tablet tries to satisfy both e-reader and tablet fans with a device that has a 6-inch E Ink screen (works with a stylus) on the left and a 7-inch touchscreen running Android 1.6 on the right. The eDGE has 3GB of storage, a 2-megapixel camera, USB port, and a microSD memory card slot. It appears Wi-Fi models are the only ones available as a 3G one that was planned isn't going on sale.
We've no problem with hybrid devices, but what is going on with the freakin' old version of Android? Android 1.6 a.k.a Donut (all Android versions are code-named after desserts) was released in September of 2009. Most Android devices run the latest 2.2 Froyo with Adobe Flash support — there is no excuse to be shipping an OS that is so under-featured and outdated. I doubt you'll be able to do much with this hybrid tablet, but at least you'll be able to load up an e-book on the left screen and then look up the definition to a word on the right screen using the mobile browser.
