The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 promises to be an amazing muscle car bargain, but Ford now says that the car can be made even faster, but only if you fork over some extra cash to buy this special red TracKey.
When you start the Boss 302 using the TracKey, over 200 parameters are changed in the car's software instructions, and they turn it from a 444 horsepower street machine into a rip-roaring track racer. Using the TracKey, you get more low end grunt, quicker throttle response, and a two-stage launch control feature for easy drag racing starts.
This is all very cool, but if they have already built these performance features into the car, why do they want to charge extra to let you use them? It's a bit like ordering a fancy steak dinner, and finding half of it served under a locked cover that you need to buy a special key to unlock. Bugatti doesn't charge extra for the special "top speed key" that comes with the Veyron.
To me it sounds like Ford took a look at Intel's new upgradeable processors, and saw dollar signs.
The price of the TracKey, or for that matter, the 2012 Boss 302, has not yet been revealed.
