The ongoing information blackout in Egypt is so serious that activists are actually digging through their garages and attics for old dial-up modems, fax machines and ham radios to replace the blocked Internet. I guess the old phrase, "one man's trash is another man's treasure" still applies in this situation.
Activist groups such as We Re-Build and Telecomex said it was listening for voice and Morse code messages sent through ham radio frequencies. The Internet activist group/vigilantes/whatever-you-want-to-call-'em Anonymous said it was using fax machines to fax Wikileaks cables about the Egyptian regime that might be relevant as well.
See, that old heap of electronics you'd toss into a landfill somewhere is still useful.
At times like these, creativity goes a long way. With the pace at which technology is moves, it's good to know that prominent technology from a decade ago and older can still be used effectively today. LINK
