1st look at Russell Crowe suited up as Jor-El in Man of Steel

Photos from the Superman reboot Man of Steel have surfaced online featuring his biodad Jor-El aka Russell Crowe—and unlike his predecessor Marlon Brando, Crowe's Jor-El is staying far, far away from the shiny shirts.
Director Zack Snyder and his massive crew are currently filming Man of Steel in Vancouver where Crowe was spotted prepping for a scene. In the photos, he's wearing a full-length cloak complete with a cape and exaggerated shoulders. The famous "S" is on his chest but its not that flashy. It's simply embroidered into a chest piece, which is much more subtle than Brando's white turtleneck.

The most interesting thing about the costume is that you can see bits and pieces of Superman's suit underneath. There are slits in Jor-El's armor that expose a blue bodysuit similar to what Superman wears. With the exception of their color, his boots also seem to be the same as his superhero son.

With all the drama surrounding the exit of Julia Ormond as Kal-El's mom Lara Lor-Van, it's good to see that his original dad stuck around for the long haul.

Man of Steel opens June 14, 2013.
