Play with your pet from across the globe with iPet Companion

If you worry about leaving your dog or cat at home all day by themselves with nobody to play with, here's a way that you can interact virtually with Rover or Kitteh from anywhere.
iPet Companion includes two robotic toys that can swing a ball or move some other toy, a webcam so you can see Kitteh's reaction, and a wireless control box that links to your home network. To start a furry play date, you simply log on to your account at the iPet Companion website, and enter a password.

A commercial version of iPet Companion has been around for over a year, but it simply allows you to play with random animals in various shelters without giving you the personal touch.
This sounds like it could be fun as long as your pet isn't freaked out if the house turns into a scene from Toy Story just when they thought they had the house to themselves. The biggest catch is likely to be the price, which at $850 for the cat version and $895 for the dog version is pretty crazy. You also need to pay a $5 a month account access fee for the website. Currently iPet Companion are advertising a $500 off sale, but even at $350 and $395 it still seems to be way overpriced.
