The upcoming London Olympics will feature a number of events in which the winning result will be determined by speed and accuracy. Now a design student has used 3D technology to offer a solution that might help athletes shave off a few crucial milliseconds at the finish line.
Submitted as a his master degree solo project at the Royal College of Art in London, Luc Fusaro's "Designed To Win" shoe was crafted using 3D technology to scan the athlete's foot and custom craft a running shoe in an effort to produce the lightest and most efficient shoe possible. The designer claims the shoe can increase the efficiency of a runner by up to 3.5 percent.
Weighing in at just 96 grams and made of sintered nylon polyamide powder, the shoe is just a prototype, but Fusaro hopes to see it in actual use in the future. You can see the development of the shoe in the video below.
