Android is a mobile juggernaut and it's on over 1 billion smartphones and tablets now . Fragmentation aside, that's a lot of devices, no matter how you look at it.
The next version of Android — 4.4 — will be called "KitKat". Yes, not "Key Lime Pie" as previously rumored, but KitKat; the same one made by Nestlé.
We're not sure who paid who for the rights/promotion, but it's hard to deny that the new KitKat Andy is absolutely adorable. It's so delicious, we want to eat it. The only thing that would make this detail-less tease from Google more interesting would be if Nestlé sold Andy-shaped KitKat bars.
According to Google's Android's timeline website, KitKat will be "an amazing Android experience for everybody." Hopefully we'll have more info on that soon.
Android 4.4 is the first version of Google's mobile OS that will be named after a brand name dessert. Previous Android versions were generically "flavored" with Cupcake (1.5), Donut (1.6) Eclair (2.0), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3), Honeycomb (3.0), Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and Jelly Bean (4.1).
It's rumored the first Android device to run Android 4.4 KitKat will be the Nexus 5, which is said to be based off LG's G2.
