If any of your Verizon faithful are still waiting for the day when the iPhone comes to Verizon (bless yer little hearts!), you may have quite a while yet — or not too long, actually. It's a little confusing, but Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg's comments have at least made the idea of a Verizon iPhone a little more concrete.
Let's just skip all the fimble-famble and get right to his comments, shall we?
First up: "We don't feel like we have an iPhone deficit. We would love to carry it when we get there, but we have to earn it." Translation: We'd love to take away one of AT&T's hardest hitters, but we're not going to beg. The "earn it" speaks to what he says next.
Second quote: "I think 4G will accelerate the process, and any other decisions Apple makes would be fine with us." Translation: Right now Sprint, using WiMAX, is one of the few national carriers with a 4G network in place and running. Verizon's probably won't arrive until next year, and both AT&T and Verizon are in a race to get all the infrastructure in place. Until then, though, it's doubtful that we'll see the iPhone on Verizon.
And all this just a day after Apple's push toward CDMA-only iPhones made folks think it really could be possible. Not yet, my friends!
