Apple bans vacations and keeps seasonal staff for product launch

The stars are really starting to a line up for those looking for signs that a CDMA iPhone for Verizon Wireless is imminent. We reported earlier that AT&T has announced that it is having a fire sale for the iPhone 3GS on Friday. Those interested will be able to pick up the phone for only $49 compared to its original price of $99. That’s a common practice of carriers who are looking to reduce inventories of older models typically when they know a newer model is around the corner.
Now take that information from AT&T and add it to the news that Apple is preventing vacations in its stores the last week of January and the first half of February. Turns out that store managers were initially not to thrilled about offering any vacations in January, but recently refined their reluctance by issuing a flat out ban during three specific weeks. Such a move by Apple usually precedes a major product launch which the company expects there to be high demand for it. In addition to the ban on vacation, Apple stores are also said to have retained their temporary holiday staff. This too would indicate a impending need by Apple to keep extra hands this month and next.
To be fair, these moves aren’t concrete proof that a Verizon iPhone is coming. There are plenty of products Apple is due to refresh including their Macs and the iPad. A new iPad alone could justify having the additional staff on hand considering how popular it is. Still, while they have the staff launching a Verizon iPhone at the same time wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
