Apple is preparing a white version of the iPhone 4 that has already appeared in the Best Buy database, according to a report. It is reportedly scheduled to launch on Feb. 27.
MacRumors reported Tuesday that both the iPhone 4 16- and 32-Gbyte versions have appeared on what the site's source claimed was the retailer's database.
The SKU for the 16-Gbytre model is 1049236, and the model number is BBM42LD. The SKU for the 32-Gbyte version is 1049245, and the model number is BBM43LD.
In October, Apple confirmed that the white iPhone would be released in early 2011.
"We're sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone yet again, but we've decided to delay its release until this spring," an Apple spokeswoman said in an October 27 e-mail.
Apple representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The white iPhone has been troubled since the start. When Apple announced its next-generation iPhone in early June, it said the iPhone 4 would be available in black and white models. By month's end, however, Apple issued a statement that said the white models "have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected."
That, according to rumor, was because Apple's suppliers were unable to coordinate the white pigment used in the different plastics to create the effect Apple wanted.
