Unlike several members of his former Lost writing team, who are jumping back into TV, Damon Lindelof looks like he's going to stay in the film sandbox for some time with today's announcement that he's working with Disney's feature film division to develop a brand-new sci-fi franchise for the Mouse House.
According to Deadline, Lindelof will get seven figures to craft the original idea into a film, with possible multi-platform outreach, which could mean anything from an animated tie-in series (like what's being done with the upcoming Tron: Uprising) to books, comic books or other digital media under the Disney umbrella.
As for details, there are none outside of Liindelof's noggin, but he's got a lot on his plate already. Right now, he's writing the sequel to J.J. Abrams' successful Star Trek reboot with collaborators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The three scribes are also awaiting the July release of their scripting collaboration for Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens. When Lindelof is done with Trek, he'll move on to this new Disney deal, which already has the mysterious working title of ... 1952.
Going back in time again, Damon? We'll have to wait and see.
