The OmniTouch is a wearable projection system that perches a modified Kinect on your shoulder, allowing you to beam an interactive interface on to virtually any surface. Awesome!
Developed by Microsoft Research and researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, the OmniTouch uses a small projector to superimpose keyboards, menus and any other interactive interface onto a nearby surface. The Kinect's cameras sense where the image is being displayed, and it adjusts the size and orientation of it to minimize distortion. It then sees where your fingers are and allows you to interact with the images as if every surface was a touchscreen.
Want to use your hand as a keypad? Type a note on your kitchen counter? Draw with light on a wall? The OmniTouch allows you to do it all. It's a pretty fascinating device, and it'll be really interesting to see if and how this sort of tech makes its way into consumer devices.
