How to Unlock Rage's Full High-Res Potential

Along with the various graphical glitches in the PC version of id Software's Rage, many gamers are noticing the Mega-Textured, id Tech 5 engine powered environments aren't as stunningly detailed as they were made out to be. Turns out it takes some tweaking to unlock Rage's high-resolution textures, and our friends at GeForce provide a step-by-step breakdown on how it can be done.

If you're searching for in-game configuration options in Rage, you won't find them. As GeForce reports, id Software created a game that dynamically adjusts detail levels on the fly in an effort to find a balance between performance and appearance.

"id Software has not in any way hobbled the PC version of the game, or held back high quality textures," GeForce notes. "Rather, the underlying technology requires refinement to make better use of the 12GB of high quality textures already available."

Getting Rage to run at a higher fidelity is an involved process that includes creating a .cfg configuration file, among other steps, so for the full breakdown, we'll direct you to GeForce's "How to Unlock Rage" feature.
