Johansson's Avengers 2 payday makes her movies' highest-paid woman

Scarlett Johansson was already a star before The Avengers. But in the wake of the massive Marvel team-up, the Black Widow actress is apparently worth even more—and in terms of the inevitable sequel, apparently worth more than any other actress in history.

The New York Post is reporting that the studio is willing to pay Johansson as much as $20 million to once again don that skin-tight battle suit. If that happens, it would be the most any actress has ever made for a film role, inching out Angelina Jolie's $19 million payday for The Tourist.
With The Avengers, Marvel was already bringing together stars such as Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth—and then they added everyone from Johansson to Mark Ruffalo to the mix, and the result was pure box-office gold.
Yeah, $20 million is a lot of money, but if that's what it takes to keep the band together, it's hard to argue with Marvel's decision. But assuming everyone else sees a significant pay bump the next time around as well, you have to wonder, at what point does the franchise (as crazy as it sounds) become too big to support itself?
What do you think? Is this just the cost of doing business, or Hollywood run amok?
