Zack Snyder has already taken his name out of contention for Star Wars VII—but that apparently doesn't mean he won't be making a different Star Wars film.
Vulture is reporting that Snyder (Watchmen, 300) is developing a standalone Star Warsfilm that will likely not fit into the proposed new trilogy. Instead, the story will be set in the same universe but focus on a different set of characters on a specific mission.
Here's the lightsaber-wielding concept:
"It will be an as-yet-untitled Jedi epic loosely based on Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic Seven Samurai, with the ronin and katana being replaced by the Force-wielding knights and their iconic lightsabers."Considering Disney's insistence to release a new Star Wars film every 2-3 years, it's not much of a surprise to hear they're already ramping up some side projects to supplement the "major" numbered sequels. Plus, who wouldn't want to watch a film about a team of ass-kicking Jedi? George Lucas has built a massive universe, and there's more than enough room for a few parallel stories to take place across the various edges of the galaxy.
With all his genre cred, Snyder looks to be a safe pick for this one, and with his Man of Steel on the way, he should be an even hotter name by the time this one comes around.
