Regular skateboards need a smooth surface to work properly, so when the path gets rough, you need to pick up your board and carry it. Not so with the Vertrax, which uses a tank-like tread and a small electric motor to deliver all-terrain performance.
Designer Brian Lovett says that the Vertrax will work on grass, snow, and even sand, but I'm not so sure given the narrowness of the tread. A tiny electric motor is visible in the renderings, and I presume the thick deck must house the batteries. LINK
