AMD Drops ATI Brand Name for Graphics

Ever since processor giant AMD acquired graphics developer ATI in 2006, people have been wondering: How long until the twocompanies merge in name as well as product? AMD announced Monday that that will happen by the end of the year.
According to materials provided by the company, AMD saw itsupcoming Fusion technology—which will combine CPU and GPU functions within a single package—as the ideal opportunity to combine the brands.
With the launch of its next generation of video cards, due by the end of 2010, all the company's video properties will be rebranded AMD, though the names of the individual lines (Radeon and FirePro) will not change. AMD has also stated that it will make available a version of the new Graphics logo without specific AMD branding.
All exisiting products will retain the current ATI brand.
