Apple rivals join forces to launch ‘iPad killer’

Other manufacturers struggling to compete with Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod range also unveiled dozens of rival products at IFA in Berlin, the world's biggest electronics show.

“Manufacturers have realised they must work together if they are going to take on the omnipresent might of Apple,” said Luke Peters, editor of T3 technology magazine.
Increasingly, devices powered by Google's Android software are being seen as key to challenging Apple. “Android is now a real competitor both in the mobile phone and tablet market, and by banding together the rest of the industry has a real chance against Apple,” added Mr Peters.
Samsung and Google have worked closely together to develop the Tab, a tablet computer which goes on sale this month. “This is a smart media device,” said Samsung's Min Cho. “It enables browsing, voice calls, text messages. This is just the start of our tablet plans.” LINK
