Pirates of the Burning Sea gets an outrageous new price

Flying Labs' unique pirates/sailing ship MMO, Pirates of the Burning Sea, is jumping onto the free-to-play (i.e. micropayments instead of subscriptions) bandwagon. The company's CEO, Rusty Williams, posts here a few reasons why free-to-play is a good thing, aside from the obvious fact that it doesn't cost anything.
If you haven't played Pirates of the Burning Sea, it's basically a typical MMO with quests and crafting, except that part of the time, you're playing a sailing ship maneuvering the waters of competing nationalities in a player-based economy, where big battles sometimes break out. Think Eve Online, but with galleons.

So when will this shift to free-to-play happen? Well, Flying Labs isn't exactly saying. The official word is that they're "very close to starting the countdown". Which is something you can say about anything that's going to happen in the future, given that a countdown can be any length of time. For instance, we're mere days away from starting the 50 billion year countdown until our sun burns out.
You can start a free 14-day trial of Pirates of the Burning Sea by going here. For all we know, it might end up being free-to-play by the time your trial is up!
