Avengers pre-sales numbers smash all other Marvel movies combined

We knew The Avengers was destined to be the biggest Marvel movie to date, but now we're starting to see just how big it's set up to be. Advance ticket sales for the flick are piling up fast, so fast that eight days before its U. S. debut, The Avengers has already sold more pre-sale tickets than all the other Marvel movies ... combined.

Online box office MovieTickets.com is reporting that their Avengers pre-sale numbers are already 1 1/2 times those of Iron ManIron Man 2Thor and Captain Americacombined "at the same point in the sales cycle." That's a staggering figure by itself, but things get even more stunning when you consider how much Earth's Mightiest Heroes are dominating the individual films at this point.
Avengers pre-sales are 3,995 percent higher than Captain America's, 1,406 percent higher than Iron Man's 1,034 percent higher than Thor's and 114 percent higher thanIron Man 2's. And no, we didn't put a comma where a decimal point should be. The Avengers is actually outselling Captain America (a film that made more than $300 million) by almost 4,000 percent.
And that's not all. The flick opened yesterday in 10 of the 42 territories were it will eventually screen, and Deadline is reporting that its international box office is already $17.1 million. That's one day's earnings in only a small fraction of the places where the film will eventually be seen, and in several of those territories it broke box office debut records.
This is a lot to take in, and it's made even more amazing by the fact that we've still got more than a week to go before the May 4 U. S. release. How big will this thing get when it finally goes worldwide? Right now there doesn't seem to be a limit.
