Mobile kiosk brings 3D printing to your doorstep

Imagine if buying a custom made 3D-printed object were as easy as buying a hotdog on a city street. Although it sounds a set-up to a sci-fi scene, one Belgium-based company has actually launched a device that does exactly that.

Created by Unfold, the company claims the inspiration for the contraption came from the pretzel and hotdog vendors on the streets of New York City. Attached to a traditional peddle-powered tricycle frame, the set up can scan and print out 3D objects on request, wherever the kiosk travels. Unfold has also fostered a global network of 3D printing designers who share a database of designs that customers can access when requesting a new object at the kiosk.
There are no announced plans to take the kiosk commercial, but the simplicity and sheer novelty of the set-up nearly guarantees that you'll see some iteration of this set-up in a city near you in the near future. LINK
