Announced on July 27, the new Mac Pro is available in quad-core, eight-core, and twelve-core flavors, beginning at $2,499, $3,499, and $4,999, respectively. The quad-core model sports a single 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Xeon W3530 processor, 3GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM memory (expandable up to 16GB), and a 1TB Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive (7200 rpm).
The 8-core model features two 2.4GHz Xeon E5620 quad-core processors and 6GB of RAM while its twelve-core counterpart boasts two 2.66GHz six-core CPUs. Early CPU benchmarksreleased last November indicated that a Mac Pro fitted with two six-core processors brings a 50 percent speed boost over the previous-generation flagship model. LINK
