The massive tornado that struck near Oklahoma City on Monday not only leveled major swathes of the community, but also resulted in a tragic loss of life. During the event, a news helicopter managed to capture footage of the twister in action and now that recording has been sped up to show exactly how powerful this weather event was.
According to some reports, the tornado, which at one point became two miles wide, blasted the region with winds of up to 200 mile per hour and destroyed roughly 17 linear miles of property. TheNational Weather Service ranked the tornado as a rare EF5 level event, and one NBC affiliate station, WMC-TV, managed to capture the funnel as it reached down from the sky and gradually erased the landscape.
The time-lapse video shows the tornado first as a tight funnel, then as an expanding dark cloud of destruction, and finally as a wisp of clouds as it vanishes away into nothingness. You can check out the entire thing (it's sped up to just one-and-a-half-minutes in length) below. VIDEO
