Iron Man returns! Downey signs new 2-year deal with Marvel

Robert Downey Jr.’s status with Marvel has been in flux ever since his lengthy contract finally ran out after Iron Man 3, but Disney has just ponied up enough cash to keep him in the suit for at least a few more movies.
Marvel has announced that Downey has inked a new, two-picture deal to return in The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. There’s no mention of money, but considering the fact that Avengers and Iron Man 3 banked $2.7 billion worldwide (and counting), it has to be a lot. Like, a lot.
Regardless, it’s great news for the continuity of Marvel’s long-term plan, and shows the centerpiece of Phase I will be sticking around through at least Phase 3. One thing to note: There’s no mention of Iron Man 4, meaning Tony Stark’s standalone movies are probably on hold for a while.
Most likely Iron Man will be shifting to an Avengers-only role, similar to how Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk was used recently. This also means we’ll most definitely be seeing more characters introduced to take those ripe spots on the schedule where Iron Man 4-5 will not be showing up. Can you say Ant-Man, or Doctor Strange, perhaps?
Are you glad to hear Downey will be back for two more films, or would you rather have them recast the role and get Iron Man 4-5 rolling now?
