The controversial British chef and star of TV's "Hell's Kitchen," "MasterChef," "Kitchen Nightmares," and "Hotel Hell" has found himself a part of a new class-action lawsuit, Yahoo! TV has confirmed.
Legal papers were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 13 by four former hourly employees at Fat Cow, the culinary artist's eatery at the Grove shopping and entertainment complex in Los Angeles, against Gordon RamsayLos Angeles LP, the Fat Cow LLC, and FCLA LP. The plaintiffs ― Jennifer Becerra, Montinique Dever, Andrea Bourke, and Lauren Benge ― allege that the restaurant stiffed them of minimum hourly wages and overtime pay, failed to provide break times for meals and rest, and didn't pay them in a timely manner, among other violations.
The lawsuit goes on to state that it was done "maliciously, fraudulently, and oppressively, with the wrongful intention of injuring Plaintiffs ... and/or in conscious disregard for their rights."
While no exact figures are determined at this phase in the legal process, the lawsuit, which requests a jury trial, states that the amount of compensation they are seeking exceeds $25,000.
When Yahoo! TV reached out to Ramsay, who opened the restaurant (which was "named as a nod to the animal that offers much of our daily diet, but we don’t often appreciate," according to its website) in August 2012, a spokesperson for the fiery foodie admitted that the young establishment has had some issues and said that they have been addressed.
"We are aware there was a problem with previous management which has since been changed, but this is totally unacceptable if any truth to it," Ramsay's rep said.
The lawyers for the plaintiffs have not yet responded to requests for comment. VIDEO
