Just yesterday the upcoming Jaguar F-Type Coupe was caught testing at the Nürburgring racetrack. Now, British magazine AutoExpress is offering us some awesome news. Apparently, Jaguar is developing a 700-horsepower R-S version of the F-Type Coupe.
According to a Jaguar insider, the company has developed an F-Type R-S with over 700 horsepower that will do over 200 mph. The new version will add a more aggressive design language and will be offered in the company’s French Racing Blue paint scheme reserved for models like the XKR-S.
In order to achieve these monstrous figures, Auto Express believes the F-Type R-S will likely borrow some of the technology used in the 900-horsepower C-X75 hybrid supercar. Translated, it could mean that the model will combine a turbocharged and supercharged 1.6-liter petrol engine with multiple electric motors to reach its 700-horsepower goal.
We respectfully disagree with the British magazine’s opinion, as we just can’t see Jag taking one of the most awesome-sounding cars in its lineup and installing a boosted, small-displacement engine. We are willing to bet that the R-S variant would use a finely tuned variant of the existing 5.0-liter V-8. Possibly a larger supercharger and some ECU recalibration to release the extra 205 horsepower needed to hit the 700-pony mark.
If these reports are not just hyperbole, we don’t expect to see the F-Type R-S until at least 2016.
