Leftlane reported a week ago that Renesas Electronics Corp., the world’s largest producer of microchips for the automotive industry, that the chipmaker hoped to resume production in July, but today the automaker has further hastened its recovery schedule.

Renesas now says that its Naka wafer fabrication factory, which has been halted since March 11, has received the aid of 2,000 outside workers to speed up the recovery, and as a result it hopes to resume production of the popular 200mm wafer by June 15. Testing of the production line will begin tomorrow, April 23.

While the chipmaker will only confirm an updated schedule for the 200mm wafer for now, the producer said that it plans to announce a second updated schedule in mid-May after returning to full production capacity for both the 200- and 300mm wafers by shifting production to other, non-damaged factories and it is better able to judge output capabilities.
Of course, given the volatile conditions in Japan due to continuing aftershocks and power outages, Renesas reminds us that its schedule can still change at any time.
