Kate Beckinsale—who's been playing that raven-haired vamp beauty Selene in all thoseUnderworld movies—sure loves kicking ass (at least in the movies). And she may well go on to kick Colin Farrell's very own baby cheeks in that Total Recall remake. Can we have a HOORAY?
According to Deadline, the actress was recently offered the role of Douglas Quaid's (played by Colin Farrell) perfidious wife Lori in the Sony Pictures remake of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed sci-fi action film.
The 1990 film starred that tower of muscles, Arnold Schwarzenneger, and an as-yet-relatively-unknown Sharon Stone as the seemingly perfectly married couple Douglas and Lori Quaid. It was also set on Mars, as in Philip K. Dick's original story ("We Can Remember It for You Wholesale").
Apparently, Beckinsale's name hadn't even been mentioned in connection with the role before (the other actresses in contention to play Lori Quaid were Diane Kruger and Jessica Biel). Yep, being married to the film's director, Len Wiseman, sure has its advantages. (Not that we're saying she's undeserving of the part—we really love the actress and believe she's actually perfect for the role of Lori.)
As for which actress will be playing Douglas Quaid's other squeeze, Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin), there's no news yet—though the names of Rosario Dawson and Eva Mendes are being mentioned as serious contenders for the role.
Kate Beckinsale is currently shooting Underworld 4: New Dawn, so we have to wait and see if she'll say YES to the part.
