Free-to-Play MechWarrior Online Will be "AAA" Release

Piranha Games has revealed that the upcoming free-to-play reboot of the MechWarrior series, MechWarrior Online, will be powered by CryEngine3, offering gamers a true "AAA" free-to-play experience. CryEngine3 is best known for powering the graphics and physics of Crysis 2.

MechWarrior Online is the first proper MechWarrior release in more than a decade. The game is set in the year 3049 and Piranha Games is promising to provide players with a huge amount of mech customization, including weapons and armor "with endless options" for upgrading.

Here's what Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games, had to say about the decision to use CryEngine3:
"Working with CryENGINE is a true pleasure. It is definitely the best choice for us: Both the character animation pipeline with the procedurally and physics based animations and the destruction system fit our goals perfectly and allow us to develop a truly unique AAA experience based on the award-winning BattleTech Universe."
Mech fans are encouraged to head on over to the official website, where you can register for the unreleased beta as well as reserve your pilot name.

Thanks, Games on Net.
