Make way for Curiosity, a car-size Mars rover that will pick up where Spirit and Opportunity left off. It launches this month, and will arrive on the Red Planet next summer.

Nuclear 'space battery' bests solar for Curiosity

The Mars Science Lab will use an on-board nuclear generator to produce heat and, using thermoelectric devices, generate enough electricity to power the Curiosity robot for years.

Next Mars rover passes key tests on road to launch

With key prelaunch tests complete, engineers gear up to stow appendages and pack up NASA's $2.4 billion Mars rover, Curiosity, for launch to the red planet in November.
