Mazda Chief Executive Officer Takashi Yamanouchi says the company could alter a plan to boost exports as sales in the United States remain relatively flat. Yamanouchi made his comments at the Tokyo Motor Show.
“We will keep our overall framework for our midterm plan, but we may change some parts,” Yamanouchi said. “We’re studying about whether to maintain our plan to raise our export ratio to 85 percent.” Mazda’s current export rate stands at 80 percent.
Through the first 10 months of the year Mazda sold 209,641 vehicles in the United States, up 8.7 percent from the same period a year earlier. Mazda hopes to boost its total North American sales to 376,000 units – an increase of 10 percent – by the 12-month period ending March.
By 2016 Mazda hopes to sell 400,000 vehicles in the United States as a part of its plan to sell 1.7 million vehicles worldwide.
