Intel Launches Sandy Bridge E

Intel puts the extreme(!) in its Sandy Bridge architecture today with the launch of Sandy Bridge E, a top-of-the-line series of CPUs that come with top-of-the-line prices.

Before Intel makes the leap to Ivy Bridge, the Sandy Bridge E is the latest and greatest in desktop processor technology. Says Intel: "The [second] generation Intel Core i7 processor Extreme Edition is the perfect engine for power users who demand unparalleled performance for unlimited digital creativity."


Here's the breakdown on the three chips:

  • Core i7-3960X -- 3.3GHz (3.9GHz Turbo), six cores, hyperthreading, unlocked multiplier 15MB L3 cache
    $1,049.99

  • Core i7-3930K -- 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo), six cores, hyperthreading, unlocked multiplier 12MB L3 cache
    $599.99

  • Core i7 3820 -- Coming in early 2012 -- 3.6GHz (3.9GHz Turbo), four cores, hyperthreading, partially unlocked multiplier 10MB L3 cache
