Shelby GT500 shreds a dyno into Canadian fireworks

The 662-hp Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 isn't a car to be trifled with; there's no American muscle car that makes more power from the factory, and even in convertible form the GT500 can bite hard. That should have been apparent to whomever set up the traveling dynamometer at a car show in Sherbrooke, Quebec, this weekend — but wasn't, as the GT500 performed a live demonstration of "Will it blend?" instead. (Answer: No, it will not.)

Dyno runs make for inexpensive entertainment at many hot rod shows, allowing owners to show off the power of their cars without putting their cars in peril on a track. As the video below shows, the show was fortunate that no spectators were hurt in the accident; the dyno (which was smoking early on in the run) looks destroyed, and the Mustang suffers some severe suspension damage. But the luckiest people at the show were the owners of the other cars that ran on the unit before it self-destructed.
